Welcome to The Summit Stories Journal.
This space was created to share stories from the trail, capture the beauty of wild places, and inspire others to explore the outdoors. Every hike has a story to tell—whether it’s a challenging climb to a summit, a quiet walk through a forest, or an unexpected moment that reminds us how incredible the natural world can be.
Growing up in Montana, I’ve always been surrounded by mountains, rivers, and open skies. Spending time outdoors has taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of slowing down to appreciate the world around me. Hiking isn’t just a hobby—it’s where I find peace, perspective, and a deeper connection to God’s creation.
I also fell in love with journalism in 2025, in a way I never expected. At the time, I was running my photography business, capturing moments through my lens. One day, my high school journalism teacher reached out and encouraged me to join the program. She saw potential in my photography and suggested I tell stories through images and words.
What started as photo stories soon grew into video stories, feature stories—every kind of storytelling I could imagine. The more I learned, the more I fell in love with journalism. It gave me a way to connect with people, ask meaningful questions, and share stories that might otherwise be overlooked. Journalism challenged me to be curious, ask deeper questions, and see the world with fresh eyes.
Today, I’m studying journalism in college, and I’m pursuing it because of that early encouragement. One teacher’s belief in me introduced me to a passion I never knew I had, and it changed my life. She inspires every story I tell and every photo I capture.
I’ve chosen to write under the name Oakley and keep this journal anonymous. I want the focus to stay on the places, experiences, and lessons found along the way—without tying it to a single name or identity. The Summit Stories Journal combines the things I love most: photography, storytelling, and the outdoors. Through every article, photograph, and adventure shared here, I hope to capture not only the places I visit but also the stories that make them meaningful.
Whether you’re an experienced backpacker, a weekend hiker, or someone who simply loves beautiful landscapes, I’m so glad you’re here. So, grab your boots, hit the trail, and join me for the next story.
